BOULDER, CO — The Colorado Buffaloes continue to strengthen their athletic infrastructure with the installation of a new AstroTurf® indoor practice field inside the Ford Practice Facility. The project was completed by United Turf & Track, AstroTurf’s trusted regional distributor, reinforcing a partnership built on experience, precision, and long-term performance.
This installation marks the second AstroTurf field deployed at Colorado within the past year, underscoring the university’s confidence in the AstroTurf family of products to support year-round training demands. Located within the facility, the new indoor surface provides a controlled, all-weather environment designed for consistent preparation regardless of seasonal conditions along the Front Range.
Engineered for strength and resilience, the field is built to support not only elite-level football training but also one of college football’s most iconic traditions. The surface is strong enough to accommodate Ralphie the Buffalo, reflecting the system’s structural integrity and its ability to perform under unique and demanding conditions without compromising athlete safety or field longevity.
The Colorado installation also reflects a broader drive across Division I football, where AstroTurf is becoming the surface of choice for both competition and daily training for top division 1 programs. This postseason, one in five bowl games were played on an AstroTurf surface, highlighting the trust placed in the product on college football’s biggest stages. That same confidence extends throughout the regular season, with programs across the Southeastern Conference, Big Ten Conference, and Atlantic Coast Conference utilizing AstroTurf systems for both gameday fields and high-volume practice environments.
