LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The LA Galaxy claimed their record-breaking sixth MLS Cup with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls in front of a sellout crowd of 26,812 at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. Dejan Joveljić netted the decisive goal, while Gastón Brugman earned MLS Cup MVP honors for his contributions, including assisting on the opening goal.
The Galaxy solidified their place in MLS history, adding the 2024 title to previous championships in 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, and 2014. This marks their 51st postseason win in 82 all-time playoff matches. The team also set a league record with 18 goals in this year’s playoffs, achieving a +14 goal differential across five matches, the largest in MLS playoff history. Joveljić led the postseason scoring with six goals and two assists.

The Galaxy opened scoring in the ninth minute when Brugman delivered a pinpoint through ball to Joseph Paintsil, who slotted it past goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. Four minutes later, Joveljić extended the lead with a clinical finish from the edge of the penalty area. The Red Bulls halved the deficit in the 28th minute, as Sean Nealis capitalized on a defensive lapse to fire in a half-volley.
Despite pressing for an equalizer, New York was unable to break down a resolute Galaxy defense, anchored by Emiro Garcés, who led the match with five interceptions and won nine duels.
