Synthetic Turf Council Honors AstroTurf as 2023 Award Recipient for Multifield Sports Project of the Year

Dalton, GA – On October 16, 2023, the Synthetic Turf Council honored AstroTurf as the recipient of the 2023 Multifield Sports Project of the Year at the sixth Annual STC Awards Ceremony during the Annual Conference and 20th Anniversary Celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The STC Sports Project of the Year Award – Multi-Field recognizes an outstanding sports project installed by an STC member company that exhibits innovation and quality reflective of the STC mission.  AstroTurf is the winner for their installation for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

IMG Academy, a globally renowned institution for sports and education, has successfully completed a two-year-long project of installing advanced AstroTurf fields throughout its campus. The comprehensive project has led to the creation of nine state-of-the-art fields, each catering to a variety of sports including baseball, football, lacrosse, and soccer.

The project includes six baseball infields equipped with AstroTurf’s innovative Diamond Series RootZone RBI system, providing unmatched durability, performance, and safety. These fields cleverly incorporate synthetic turf “clay areas” to mimic infield dirt and “grass areas” to resemble natural grass.

Additionally, a stadium field and several practice fields for football and lacrosse have been outfitted with AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 Trionic Blend product. This advanced synthetic turf system combines three distinct fibers to offer improved stability, durability, and reduced infill flyout, proving to be an exceptional surface for numerous sports. This project incorporated BrockFill and Brock ShockPad in the fields’ construction. BrockFill, a natural infill made from sustainably sourced wood fibers, offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional rubber infill, contributing to carbon sequestration and cooler surface temperatures. Meanwhile, the Brock ShockPad provides excellent shock absorption, and prolongs the lifespan of the field while helping to provide a consistent playing surface.

The completion of these high-quality AstroTurf fields showcases IMG Academy’s ongoing commitment to providing its student-athletes with exceptional facilities. This initiative is a testament to the institution’s investment in modern technology and infrastructure to boost the overall experience of its student-athletes and better prepare them for their future athletic endeavors. The project’s conclusion reinforces IMG Academy’s position as a premier destination for athletes seeking to refine their skills in an elite setting.

The STC Awards is a member program designed to honor members who help to promote the association’s values and advance the synthetic turf industry.
