Philadelphia, PA – Two historic names in the track and field world have reached historic milestones in 2019. Rekortan, the leading name in premium track systems is celebrating its 50th Anniversary and the Penn Relays, America’s oldest and largest track and field competition will have its 125th running this year. The two legendary icons will come together once again at the event as Rekortan is honored to enter into its 31st consecutive year as the Official Surface of the event.
Held each year during the last week of April, The Penn Relays regularly attract over 100,000 fans during a 3 day period with as many as 50,000 attending on Saturdays. The event will host more than 15,000 participants from High Schools, Colleges and Track Clubs throughout North America and abroad. It is held at the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field, the oldest stadium in the country that functions as both a football and track stadium.
Rekortan is excited to be hosting the Coaches Hospitality Suite during the event. Head Coaches can enjoy a climate controlled sitting area with a live feed of the relays along with beverages from 9AM to 3PM and light appetizers from 11AM to 3PM. There will be giveaway items for the coaches, samples, and a friendly staff of Rekortan consultants on hand to answer any questions about the leading provider of technologically advanced, premium track systems.
Also at the Hospitality Suite, there will be live demonstrations of Rekortan Smart, the world’s first smart running surface at 9AM, 11AM, and 1PM on Thursday and Friday and additional demonstrations at 9AM and 11AM on Saturday. With the Rekortan Smart system, the athlete wears a high-tech sensor or smartphone on a waist belt. As soon as the athlete starts to move, the sensor/smartphone begins logging the data. Whenever the athlete passes a magnetic gate, the sensor detects the magnet in the surface as a timing point. This allows motion and time data to be divided into sections between the gates and assessed accordingly. The sensor is able to determine where the athlete is on the surface and it is also able to distinguish between rests and changes in direction. Assessment results allow for more effective training programs. This technology is great for not only athletes, but for coaches and strength and conditioning professionals to develop programs and help prevent injuries.
“We are thrilled to once again be a part of this wonderful event,” said Sydney Stahlbaum, Marketing Director for Rekortan. “We look forward to The Penn Relays each year and celebrating our anniversaries together makes this year even more special.”
The Penn Relays are held annually during the last week of April. The dates for this year’s event are April 25th through the 27th. A full schedule of events and detailed race times may be found at www.thepennrelays.com
