Evansville, IN – The University of Evansville baseball stadium will be undergoing a major renovation this year which will include a new AstroTurf® synthetic turf field. The facility will be getting a facelift which will include padded walls throughout the entire stadium with new fence lines down the first and third base lines, dugout and bullpen renovations, a new LED scoreboard and a new AstroTurf premium playing surface. The updated venue will be named German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
For their new field, the Aces chose the AstroTurf Diamond Series. The Diamond Series includes multiple artificial turf components that have been specifically engineered to emulate the look, feel, and performance of both the grass and clay portions of a baseball field. Diamond Series turf systems from AstroTurf® are well-known throughout the sport of baseball for delivering the ultimate in playability, durability and ballpark aesthetics.
Aces head baseball coach Wes Carroll believes that the facility improvements will have a tremendous effect on the program’s recruiting efforts and the development of their student athletes. He stated, “This is going to catapult us back into the competitive conversation of recruiting Missouri Valley Conference players and being able to get that Top 100 type of athlete in the country. The effects of this renovation will resonate throughout our community and will impact the overall perception of University of Evansville Baseball. This new AstroTurf field is truly a game-changer for our program.”AstroTurf Director of Baseball, Aaron Klotz commented, “I have been aware of Coach Carroll’s desire to bring the AstroTurf Diamond Series to Evansville for quite some time now and we have discussed his vision for facility improvements over the last few years. We are so excited for the University of Evansville Baseball Program that this day has come. We can’t wait to get started on the project and help make this the premier baseball venue in the Tri-State area to host sporting events of all ages.”
This project not only benefits the Aces baseball program, it will also have impacts on the entire athletic department and community. The new synthetic AstroTurf field will allow the soccer and softball teams to train on it during the winter months and attract baseball camps and tournaments in the summer.
UE Director of Athletics Mark Spencer said. “While this will take our baseball program to a new level, it will also have an impact on many of our other sports. An outdoor AstroTurf field allows us to have a playing and practice surface that is able to handle the challenges of Southern Indiana spring weather. It will give all student-athletes an opportunity for practice and preparation that they have not had access to in the past.”
The University of Evansville will join other Division 1 Baseball programs such as Vanderbilt, Michigan, Kentucky, Duke, West Virginia, Ohio State, and many more as AstroTurf Diamond Series customers. Construction will take two to three months and the field will be ready well before the Aces take the field in February 2020.
