AstroTurf® Installs Floating Pitch for Seattle Soccer Celebration During 2026 World Cup

SEATTLE, WA — AstroTurf® has installed a custom floating pitch that will serve as the centerpiece of Seattle Soccer Celebration during the 2026 World Cup, placing the company’s soccer systems at the center of one of the tournament’s most distinctive fan and community activations. The project features a custom-built soccer field atop a maritime vessel docked near Pier 62 at Waterfront Park, where it will host fan events, cultural programming, match-watch parties, and community soccer activities throughout the tournament.

For Seattle’s clubs and civic partners, the floating field is marvel. Club leadership described the project as both a global showcase for Seattle and a lasting community investment tied to the city’s role as a 2026 host. The event is being developed in partnership with the RAVE Foundation and Friends of Waterfront Park, and organizers say the pitch will serve as the symbolic 52nd field in RAVE’s statewide effort to build 52 free mini-pitches in underserved communities ahead of the tournament.

That combination of spectacle and access makes the installation especially meaningful. Friends of Waterfront Park has also announced that the waterfront will serve as one of Seattle’s official free fan celebration sites, and organizers say the larger festival will include free public programming, youth soccer events, entertainment, and cultural experiences. The Sounders have said the floating venue could welcome 100,000 fans over multiple weeks, giving the field a central role in one of the city’s biggest public soccer moments.

For AstroTurf, the project demonstrates the growing role of its products across the soccer landscape. From elite fields and professional training centers to community complexes and youth development spaces, AstroTurf systems are being chosen for environments that demand durability, repeatable performance, and the ability to keep play moving through heavy use. A floating pitch built for one of the sport’s biggest global stages is a different kind of challenge, but it reflects the same trust customers place in us time after time, especially for soccer.

“This installation is a reminder that modern soccer surfaces have to do more than simply host a match,” said Carl Capellas, Director of Soccer(Americas) for AstroTurf “They have to support elite play, withstand high visibility, and create opportunities for the game to reach more people. That’s exactly what this project represents.”

As the 2026 tournament approaches, AstroTurf’s work on the Seattle floating pitch highlights how soccer is expanding in both ambition and reach. Whether the setting is a professional training ground, a community mini-pitch, or a first-of-its-kind field on Elliott Bay, AstroTurf continues to help deliver the surfaces that keep the modern game growing
