BOULDER, Colo. — AstroTurf is pleased to announce that the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, celebrating over a century of Buffs football history, will be upgraded with a premium AstroTurf® artificial turf system. Installed by United Turf and Track, the new field is set for completion by July 1, ensuring the iconic stadium remains a premier destination for college football, concerts, and community events.
“Bringing AstroTurf back to Folsom Field for the first time since 1998 is extremely exciting, and we are proud of the work our incredible distributor United Turf and Track has been doing on this project”, said Jeff Raiger, AstroTurf Regional General Manager. “As one of the most forward-thinking athletic departments in the nation, the University of Colorado recognizes the importance of providing a reliable and consistent surface—one that stands up to the demands of a busy schedule and the unpredictable Colorado climate.”
“It’s an honor to partner with the University of Colorado on this project,” said Dillon Ripley, Founder and CEO of United Turf and Track. “We’re not just installing a field—we’re helping to build a surface that will support athletes, inspire fans, and serve the university for years to come. With AstroTurf, we are bringing the best in synthetic turf technology to one of the most respected programs in the country.”
The project is slated to begin in late spring, following the renowned Bolder Boulder 10k race on May 26. This timeline ensures the field will be ready ahead of a series of high-profile concerts planned for the Fourth of July weekend. The upgraded artificial turf will offer:
- Enhanced Durability and Safety: The new AstroTurf system provides a stable playing surface designed to reduce field-related wear and tear while meeting stringent safety standards.
- Year-Round Playability: With the ability to withstand cold-weather climates, Folsom Field can more comfortably host December football games – an important consideration as the Buffaloes eye the expanded College Football Playoff.
The decision to move back to an artificial surface was not taken lightly; however, CU’s athletic department determined it was critical for flexibility in scheduling and field reliability. With the Buffaloes hoping to capitalize on the opportunity to host late-season games under the new College Football Playoff format, AstroTurf’s technology meets the program’s current and future needs.
“The new AstroTurf playing surface gives us added flexibility, both with late-season games created by the expansion of the College Football Playoff, and opportunities to host more non-football events at our stadium,” said Colorado Athletic Director Rick George. “This state-of-the-art system provides the durability that is necessary for us to host games, concerts, and other events year-round.”
Some of Colorado’s most storied seasons took place on artificial turf – most notably the 1990 national championship campaign and Rashaan Salaam’s Heisman Trophy run in 1994. AstroTurf® and United Turf and Track are honored to continue this storied legacy, supporting the next generation of Buffs as they strive to bring more championships home to Folsom Field.
Colorado will kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Georgia Tech. With legendary Coach Deion Sanders at the helm, the Buffaloes are eager to chase a playoff berth on their brand-new AstroTurf surface—proving that, at Folsom Field, every day is a great day to be a Buff.
