Dallas, TX – The Episcopal School of Dallas prides itself on having a standard of excellence and when it was time to upgrade their football field they chose the most technologically advanced synthetic turf system in the industry. When the Eagles kick off their football season this fall, they will be doing so on a system that is becoming the talk of the artificial turf world.
ESDallas chose to surface Gene and Jerry Jones Stadium with AstroTurf’s RootZone 3DSF turf system featuring Trionic™ and SuperNatural. There’s a lot to talk about in this system so it is important to break down the complexities and features of this new field. RootZone 3DSF is a signature product that features slit film fibers for the ultimate in durability. The premium surface also contains AstroTurf’s patented RootZone technology, a thatched sub-layer of fibers that stabilize the infill and deliver enhanced safety and performance. The system will feature AstroTurf’s super-fiber, Trionic. Trionic is a wonder-fiber that reinforces player-friendly polyethylene fibers with ultra-durable nylon polymers in a feat of chemical engineering never achieved before in the turf industry. The turf has a 60-ounce face weight, meaning it has very dense stitching. All of these factors combine to make a synthetic turf that is stronger, safer, better, and more resilient.
The Episcopal School of Dallas project is using the Melos SuperNatural EPDM Infill, which is blended EPDM rubber with 20 percent organic compound woven throughout the rubber materials. Melos brings legendary quality standards and an innovative approach to blend natural fibers into EPDM, creating additional cooling benefits. Advantages of this super-durable system include hemp which wicks water to help further reduce surface temperatures (which is crucial in the hot sun), no water required for the product integrity and the bulk density reduces the quantity needed. Also, to provide a level of environmental friendliness, renewable raw materials are included.
“AstroTurf brings The Episcopal School of Dallas levels of support, value, innovative design and expert installation that we seldom encounter. They are a trusted partner and we couldn’t be prouder to be a repeat client” said Robert Buchholz, ESDallas CFO.
The field will be used by the football, soccer and lacrosse programs so The Episcopal School of Dallas chose a turf system that could stand up to the demands of daily rigorous activity.
The success of the ESD athletic programs are well-known throughout Texas and beyond. ESD fields more than 70 athletic teams for grades seven through twelve. Approximately 90 percent of Upper School Students play on at least one athletic team. In the last few years, ESD teams have won numerous championships in basketball, crew, field hockey, football, lacrosse, volleyball, and soccer. The Episcopal School of Dallas is a member of the Southwest Preparatory Conference which consists of 18 college preparatory schools located in Texas and Oklahoma.
